Research Team Lead: Celebrating Jeff's 4 Year Anniversary

Q: Can you tell me a little bit about what you do in your role at JetCo Solutions?

At JetCo, I train, manage and supervise the research team. This encompasses our daily research activities (reactive research, proactive research, and research related tasks) as well as the things we do within a fiscal quarter, such as ROCK’s or projects. It is my job to find suitable opportunities for our clients based on their capabilities.

Q: How has your role evolved over the past four years?

Over the past four years, I definitely have found myself involved in setting goals that align with the companies success. Now that I have established some years under my belt I have challenged myself to think holistically on how I can be a catalyst to the achievements of JetCo altogether. I feel that my mindset has matured from being more individually focused to now setting my sights on the growth of our JetCo process and building a strong foundation that we can uniformly continue years from now.

Q: What's the biggest lesson you've learned at your time in the role?

During my time at JetCo, I’ve learned many valuable business lessons and the importance of relationship building amongst clients and agencies. The biggest lesson I have learned is that preparation is key to a successful outcome. I find myself always preparing for various outcomes to be mentally prepared to pivot. When working in an unpredictable realm like government contracting, you must always be ready for changes.

Q: What's your favorite part about leading the research team?

My favorite part about leading the research team is watching everyone grow in confidence and experience together. It is a pleasure to see someone come in with an eagerness to learn all there is about research and how that correlates with government contracting. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and expertise with my fellow researchers so that we all can be well versed in conducting research.

Q: What's the difference between proactive and reactive research?

Reactive research is filtering and searching of opportunities that have already been released and are currently open. Reactive research involves finding good opportunities from solicitations that have already been released. Conversely, proactive research is the process of identifying forecasted opportunities within an agency that have not been solicited yet. Proactive research involves strategizing a plan for if/when an opportunity releases.

Q: What do you do with the data you find and why is it so valuable?

We store it in our company share drive to be easily retrieved or shared amongst our team and our clients. This data provides valuable insights such as who is buying and what they are buying.  We can use this information to better situate our bids and be more competitively priced.

Q: What project/achievement are you most proud of?

I am most proud of implementing artificial intelligence into the JetCo process. In the last year, we have successfully adopted several AI related tools that will help increase our capabilities to perform research. I hope to continue finding new ways to utilize AI so that we can grow in efficiency and effectiveness!

Q: If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Tough question. If I had to choose one, it would have to be the ability to time travel. I’m a big history guy so I would be thrilled to travel back in time or check out the future!
