The federal procurement landscape is undergoing major shifts in 2026 as the General Services Administration continues to consolidate key acquisition systems. One of the largest changes is the integration of FPDS.gov’s public search functions into SAM.gov, reshaping how contractors find, track, and analyze opportunities.
A Quick History
SAM.gov, or System for Award Management, was created to have multiple federal procurement and award systems into one. It streamlines how businesses search for opportunities and interact with government systems. Whereas FPDS.gov served as the government’s central repository for tracking federal contract award data, including award history, agency spending, procurement transparency, etc.
As part of GSA’s long-running modernization effort, which was previously known as the Integrated Award Environment, these functions are now being absorbed into SAM.gov.
Why This Matters
But why does this matter? This isn’t just a technical upgrade; it fundamentally reshapes how government contractors operate into a single environment. It gives a new landscape for compliance, visibility, and competitive strategy with all searches flowing through SAM.gov’s unified interface.
Because the new research tools function differently from FDPS.gov, many contractors feel overwhelmed or lose time trying to navigate unfamiliar workflows. If your team isn’t sure how to navigate SAM.gov’s updated research environment, our team can guide you.
